Cuba-USA: sutilezas para casarnos con la mentira

Poner a los medios "bajo sospecha" y denunciarlos debería ser parte de una nueva alfabetización para el público en general y para los profesionales de la noticia, en particular.  Esto vale para cualquier contexto cuando vivimos en un mundo de monopolio informativo, y al respecto de Cuba, en momentos en que el pequeño archipiélago, la Isla, agredida por décadas en todos los campos y especialmente en lo mediático, sorprende que adquiera una connotación informativa, de la cual hay que recelar por simple sentido común. 

En un escenario de acumulación de mensajes reiterados abusivamente y la desinformación intencionada contra Cuba, con variadas formas, lamentablemente muy extendidas en la manipulación, hace que pasen las mentiras y se multipliquen con una tautologia típica de la saturación, fórmula que en realidad, desinforma.

Veremos un ejemplo, pero antes, apunto una reflexión de la profesora de Ciencias Políticas de la Universidad Complutense, Ángeles Diez, que es pertinente.

"Si el 90% de la información está controlada por las grandes corporaciones estadounidenses y europeas es difícil pensar que podemos estar mejor informados por consultar más medios de comunicación..." Y, en general, se trata de preguntarse "por ejemplo, qué intereses hay detrás de un hecho, qué credibilidad nos merece la fuente, a quién beneficia la noticia y por qué…" [1] 

Los días 15 y 16 de febrero, fue informado, por su valor noticioso, que la primera compañía estadounidense desde 1959, Cleber LLC, [2], había sido aprobada por Cuba para instalarse en la Zona Especial de Desarrollo Mariel, donde ya están ubicadas empresas de México, Brasil y España. La compañía de Alabama montará una planta para producir anualmente hasta 1000 tractores de pequeño porte.

Las agencias noticiosas que dieron la primicia desde Washington fueron AP [3] y ANSA [4], cuyos despachos pueden ser leídos, pero como muestra, sin que sea lo único, véase algo, que se repite: convertir la víctima en victimaria, con una mentira, que más abajo queda al descubierto.

La primera, AP, escribe: "La planta, con un valor de entre cinco y 10 millones de dólares, sería la primera inversión corporativa significativa de una empresa de Estados Unidos en territorio cubano desde que Fidel Castro asumió el poder en 1959 y nacionalizó miles de millones de dólares de propiedad privada y corporativa estadounidense. Esa confiscación provocó un embargo estadounidense sobre Cuba..."

La segunda, ANSA, asegura: "Los negocios estadounidenses en Cuba fueron nacionalizados por el gobierno socialista encabezado por el entonces primer ministro, Fidel Castro, tras ganar su guerra civil contra el régimen de Fulgencio Batista en enero de 1959."

Para percatarnos de cómo se multiplica una mentira, con palabras casi idénticas infinidad de medios, sin que puedan ser dispensados, por ignorancia o falta de pericia técnica, cito aquí aleatoriamente sitios, que el lector conocerá su corte:  El País de España [5], La Nación [6] y Clarín de Argentina [7], La Tercera de Chile [8] y Deutsche Welle [9].

Por su parte, la VOA [10] y otros propagandistas de la ultraderecha no se ahorraron calificativos en la noticia: "Es el primer negocio estadounidense en la nación comunista desde 1959, cuando el dictador Fidel Castro tomó el poder y nacionalizó miles de millones de dólares en propiedades privadas y corporativas estadounidenses en la isla."

En verdad todos estas "queridas" agencias y medios podrían ahorrarse la mentira, pues no fue Cuba quien inició la agresión. Solo bastaba eso, y no aplicar tres técnicas específicas de manipulación a una noticia.

Debiera concluir este trabajo aquí, pero tal vez al lector le interese ampliar el análisis con la manipulación de manual que emplean, que son el pan de cada día en el universo noticioso, llevando a una promiscuidad del engaño, que si se conoce, asquea, y llamarlo sutilezas como en el titular, es casi un eufemismo, porque pretenden casarnos con la mentira.

Cuando agencias y medios "informan" lo antedicho, están aplicando:

Manipulación por sesgo: táctica que sesga los datos parcial o totalmente no proporcionando toda la información de que se dispone.

Manipulación por deformación: táctica que presenta datos reales pero deformados. Esta técnica de manipulación y la anterior suelen ir unidas.

Manipulación emocional: es la táctica que pretende manipular la opinión manejando arteramente sus sentimientos. [11]

Al expresar aquí que los medios citados y otros más, mienten, recordemos que, tan temprano como el 6 de febrero de 1959 bancos norteamericanos recibieron 424 millones de dólares robados por cabecillas batistianos, que no fueron nunca devueltos a Cuba. [12]

El 24 de junio de 1959 el Departamento de Estado norteamericano convocó a una reunión para orientar que: "correspondía al Gobierno de Estados Unidos asumir de inmediato una posición muy firme contra la Ley de Reforma Agraria y su implementación. (...)La mejor manera de alcanzar el necesario resultado era la presión económica." Entonces, valoraron, por primera vez, la supresión de la cuota azucarera cubana.

El 6 de abril de 1960 otro informe de un funcionario del Departamento de Estado refleja:

"La mayoría de los cubanos apoyan a Castro (...) no existe una oposición política efectiva (...) el único medio previsible para enajenar el apoyo interno es a través del descontento y el desaliento basados en la insatisfacción y las dificultades económicas "El presidente Eisenhower decretó la reducción de la cuota azucarera y el rompimiento de relaciones con Cuba.

En abril de 1960 las transnacionales Esso, Texaco y Shell, a petición del Gobierno de Estados Unidos, restringieron la exportación de combustible a Cuba.

En junio de 1960 el presidente Dwight Eisenhower decretó la reducción de 700 mil toneladas de la cuota azucarera cubana en mercado norteamericano.

El 24 de septiembre de 1960 el Gobierno de Estados Unidos notificó la suspensión de operaciones de planta de níquel de Nicaro, propiedad del Gobierno de ese país.

El 19 de octubre de 1960 se ponen en vigor medidas generales prohibiendo exportaciones norteamericanas a Cuba. Se exceptúan, los alimentos, medicinas y equipos médicos, no incluidos en subsidios.

El 16 de diciembre de 1960 el presidente Eisenhower suprime totalmente la cuota azucarera cubana para los primeros tres meses de 1961.

El 3 de enero de 1961 Estados Unidos rompe relaciones diplomáticas con Cuba.

Así, que como se dice en lenguaje coloquial, a otro con el cuento, porque la verdad es que pretenden convertir a Cuba, de víctima en victimaria, con fines dudosamente bien intencionados.

Cuba-USA: subtleties to marry us to the lie

To put the media “under suspicion” and accuse them of being a part of a new language for the public in general and news professionals, in particular.  This is valid in any context when we live in a world of news monopoly. And referring to Cuba, in moments that the Island has been attacked for decades in every field and especially in the media, it is surprising that it acquires an informative connotation that we must be wary of with simple common sense.

In a scenario with repeated and abusive messages and intentional misinformation against Cuba in various forms, unfortunately very extended manipulation in which they pass multiplied lies with a typical saturating repetition; a formula that in truth misinforms.

We will give an example but first a thought of the professor of Political Sciences of the Universidad Complutense, Angeles Diez, that is pertinent.

“If 90% of the information is controlled by the large US and European corporations it is difficult to think that we are well prepared to consult better information derived from the mass media…”

And, in general, one should ask “for example, what interests are hidden behind the facts, what credibility do we have about the source; who does the news benefit and why…” 

On February 15 and 16 it was reported, as breaking news, that the first US company since 1959, Cleber LLC, had been approved by Cuba to install in the Special Zone of Development Mariel where there are already companies from Mexico, Brazil and Spain. The company based in Alabama will set up a plant to produce, yearly, up to 1000 small tractors.

The news agencies that gave the scoop in Washington were AP and ANSA, and can be read but find something that was repeated: converting the victim into killer with a lie that below was revealed.

The first AP writes: The plant valued between five and 10 million dollars will be the first important corporative investment of a United States company in Cuban territory since Fidel Castro took power in 1959 and nationalized millions of dollars of private corporate US property. This confiscation led to the US embargo against Cuba…”

The second, ANSA,  claimed that ; “US businesses were nationalized by the socialist government headed by the then prime minister, Fidel Castor, after winning a civil war against the regime of Fulgencio Batista in January of 1959”.

To observe how a lie is multiplied with almost identical words by the media that cannot be excused of ignorance or lack of technical skill, quoted randomly in a manner the reader will recognize at a glance: El País de España, La Nación y Clarín de Argentina, La Tercera de Chile and Deutsche Welle.

For its part the VOA and other propagandists of the right wing did not spare adjectives in the news: “It is the first US company in the communist nation since 1959 when dictator Fidel Castro took power and nationalized billions of dollars of US private and corporate properties in the Island”.

In truth all these “dear” agencies and media could spare the lie since it was not Cuba that began aggression. That was enough and did not apply specific techniques of manipulation of the news.

I should conclude this work here but, perhaps, the reader is interested in extending the analysis with the manual of manipulation employed that is common in the world of news, extending a known promiscuity of deceit  that is sickening and call it subtleties in the heading is almost a euphemism because it intends to marry us to the lie.

When agencies and media “thus informs” they are applying “Biased manipulation: a tactic that biases the information, partially or totally, and does not reveal all the information it has. Manipulation by deformation: a tactic that employs real facts but deformed. This technique of manipulation and the previous one move together.

Emotional manipulation is a tactic that intends to manipulate opinion working, skillfully, on their feelings.

Expressing here that these media and others lie let us recall that as early as February 6 of 1959 US banks received 424 million dollars stolen by Batista henchmen that was never returned to Cuba.

On June 24 of 1959 the US State Department called a meeting for guidelines: corresponding to the United State Government to take a firm position against the Agrarian Reform Law and its implementation (…). The best way to achieve the necessary results is through economic pressure.” They then evaluated, for the first time, the suppression of the Cuban sugar quota.

On April 6 of 1960 another report of an official of the State Department reveals: “That most Cubans support Castro (…) there is no effective opposition policy (…) the only means available to alienate internal support is through unrest and discouragement based on dissatisfaction and economic difficulties. “President Eisenhower decreed the reduction of the sugar quota and breaking relations with Cuba.

On April of 1960 the transnationals Esso, Texaco and Shell were requested by the United States government to restrict export of fuel to Cuba.

In June of 1960 President Dwight Eisenhower decreed a reduction of 700 thousand tons of the Cuban sugar quota in the US market.

On September of 1960 the United States government notified the suspension of operation in the nickel plant of Nicaro, property of the government of that country.

On October 19 of 1960 general measures are enforced prohibiting US exports to Cuba.

Exceptions are food, medicines and medical equipment not subsidized.

On December 16 of 1960 President Eisenhower eliminates totally the Cuban sugar quota in the first three months of 1961.

On January 30 of 1961 the United States breaks diplomatic relations with Cuba. Tell that to someone else because in truth they intend to convert Cuba from victim to killer with doubtful good intentions.
